Time is running out if you are still shopping for that special someone for the Holidays. Let Plant Slant Journey help you with some last minute gift suggestions. Doug is an avid reader and gets a lot of his inspiration from books. Lets us share a few of them with you. These are books that he has personally read. We are not affiliated with anyone, so we do not make any money off of these recommendations. We hope you enjoy them. If you use Amazon, then just click on each of the books and the link will take you to Amazon. Again, we do not make any money off of the sales.
The 1st 2 books are from the Blue Zones. If you have been following us, then you know Blue Zones was part of the inspiration for us to transition to a plant-slant lifestyle and to start this blog to reach as many people as possible. Click here to find out how Plant Slant Journey got it’s name and inspiration from Blue Zones. We are both huge ambassadors for them. One of the things that we loved about Blue Zones, is that many of the areas that they studied occasionally ate a small amount of meat, so it works for people that are new to a plant-slant lifestyle and are in a transitioning phase. Click here to check out the Blue Zones website.
The 1st book describes how “Living and active, fulfilling life well into your 90’s – and possibly your 100’s – may be easier than you think…This updated edition reveals secrets of the world’s longest lived people in Sardinia, Italy; Loma Linda, California; Nicoya, Costa Rica and Okinawa, Japan.” This info came from the back of the book. Dr. Oz wrote “A must-read if you want to stay young!” To purchase from Amazon, just click on the book below.
The inside jacket of this next book Blue Zones Solution states “best selling author and National Geographic fellow Dan Buettner reveals what the world’s longest-lived people have eaten over the past 100 years to help you lead a healthier, more fulfilling life.” Dr. Oz wrote “An ideal way to learn how to live longer and better is to study people who are doing just that.”
The next book “How Not To Die” is one of our favorites partly because it is authored by one of our favorite doctors, Dr. Greger. He has done a tremendous amount of work teaching the foods you should be eating to possibly prevent and reverse some of our nation’s leading causes of death and disability. Each chapter is titled “How Not To Die from _____________. You can fill in the blank with diseases like Heart Disease, Diabetes, various cancers, etc. You can check out his work at Nutrition Facts.
Next is Dr Greger’s new cookbook which was just released in early December. It is full of amazing meals. We made 2 meals from the cookbook in the 1st 2 days after we received it. We fully expect this to be our new “go-to” book for our meals and meal planning. This book is a must-have for anyone serious about eating healthy.
This next book is the Culprit & the Cure. From Amazon…”This book presents a wealth of evidence that reveals how a healthy diet, exercise, and other healthy lifestyles can impact life-span and the risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases. It provides easy-to-follow guidelines that will help individuals begin and maintain a healthy lifestyle for life. No infomercials here, just the facts from an authority who knows.”
Finally, a book that was a huge inspiration for Doug, “Finding Ultra” by Rich Roll. From Amazon…On the eve of his 40th birthday, Rich Roll was in bad shape. His days were filled with work, stress, and junk food, and his nights were spent on the couch, remote in hand. Taking out the trash was the closest he came to exercise, and, at 50 pounds overweight, a walk up the stairs left him winded. He decided it was time to make a change. After undergoing a diet detox, adopting a vegan lifestyle, and pushing his fitness regimen to undreamed-of heights, he was profiled by Men’s Fitness as one of the world’s 25 fittest men.” You have to check out the book to see what he accomplished. It is mind-blowing stuff. Rich Roll also has an excellent website filled with links to his over 300 podcasts with lots of famous, amazing people. Some you know, others you may not know. Doug will often listed to them while walking, or just doing some housework. Click here to check out his website.
Of course, Doug has read lots of other books, but only wants to recommend the ones that he truly enjoyed and would read again and again. Everyone finds inspiration in different ways. For Doug, reading is one of them. We hope you find some inspiration this holiday season. How are you inspired? Please send us an email at email@example.com.
As always, please share our website with your family and friends. We are trying to reach as many people as possible.
Enjoy the Journey!
