How’s the New Year treating you so far? Chances are you are coming off of a “high” from the Holidays. For many, that high has been replaced with a lack of motivation and inspiration. Doug felt the exact same way. Keep reading to get some tips on how to turn your life back around.
Personally, I felt like I was in a bit of a rut. I lacked motivation and inspiration. I wasn’t running, going to the gym or writing on our Plant Slant Journey website. Also, I wasn’t sleeping very good either which then lead to more excuses etc. I really couldn’t put my finger on WHY! So, I googled it. I read a few of the posts that I am sharing with you below. What did I do? I made myself go for a walk in the early morning while everything was quiet, put in my earbuds to listen to some music and just let my mind wander. I did this just a few times and I started to feel a little better about myself. The following week I decided to go for a short run. I told myself that I didn’t care how long or how fast I went. I kept telling myself “excuses only satisfy those that make them.” I am not sure who said it first, but it has always stuck with me. Now, just a couple of weeks later, I am still running. I have gone back to the gym and I am listening to my music as I write this post. Believe me, I am just a regular guy who more or less forced himself to “go for a walk” – plain and simple. Please keep reading and hopefully, there will be something that will help you get back some of your motivation and inspiration.
Being healthy is a mindset. When you feel good about yourself, it is easier to make the right decisions about the food you put on your plate and into your mouth. Many people eat when they have the blahs or are in a bad mood. If you recognize this about yourself, you can do something about it before the binge snacking starts. If you are feeling blah and lack any kind of inspiration, we have some tips for you to get you moving and lift your spirits. Here they are in no particular order.
Read something inspirational. It can be anything to take your mind off the present. Some people enjoy self-help books or maybe a biography to learn something new. Do you have a favorite author?
Try something new – Volunteer. Find a local food pantry or pet shelter and volunteer once a week for a few hours. It will make you feel good.
Take a Walk in Nature if possible. Just get outside and smell the air. Look around as you walk. What do you see? What do you hear? Often our lives are lived at a very fast pace. Slow down for a few minutes.
Get in a workout. Get the blood pumping and let the endorphins kick in. It can be as simple as a bike ride. Remember how good if felt to ride a bike when you were young? You will no doubt feel better.
Read blogs about topics you are interested in. There are so many bloggers out there on virtually any topic. Take the time to find one in the niche that interests you and learn something new. How about us at Plant Slant Journey?
Meditate. Not sure how? Google meditation for beginners.
Meet a friend for lunch that is always in a good mood.
Listen to music. This one is my favorite when I am not in a good mood or feeling down. It’s Rock and Roll for me. After just a couple of songs, I feel like a changed person.
Show your gratitude. Write down 5 things and/or people you appreciate in your life every night before bed for 1 week.
Bake something healthy. Doug loves to bake and the smell of healthy muffins or banana bread can trigger those feel good endorphins. Give some of it to a neighbor and make their day as well.
